The second practice style scrimmage for David Emanuel Academy concluded with the team making continued improvement and emerging injury free. The Eagles latest get together was last Friday night in Sandersville as DEA ran plays and played defense versus Brentwood School and John Hancock Academy.
“I think we are getting better” said Coach Jimmy Barnett. “But we still have some improving to do, mainly with getting out on our trap blocks and playing our assignments on defense.”
In lining up with Brentwood, the Eagles were going against on of the top teams in class AA. “It was good for us to see a team like Brentwood” said Barnett. “Bert Brown is as fine a coach as you will see and his offense always executes well. John Hancock has a new coach and they are going to be much improved this year. Overall we came away with a better idea of where we are and we need to go.”
Barnett was pleased overall with his offense. “We were able to move the ball. In time I feel like things like firing off the ball, getting on and staying on blocks will improve.”
The Eagles will get their final test of the pre-season on Wednesday August 18 when they play a scrimmage contest versus Fullington at 4:00 in John Hancock Pre-Season Classic in Sparta. This will be the first game like scrimmage played with officials, a running clock and line to gain equipment utilized. The 2010 regular season begins on Thursday August 26 when the Eagles face long time rival Bulloch Academy.
